Just wanted everyone to be aware of whats happening in the shop for Saturday (RSD '28).
First things first, this is the first time for participating in the event. Apologies ahead of time for anything that doesnt go right. It will definitely be a learning experience for me. Even after participating in seminars, and talking to other shop owners, this is still a total “winging it” situation for me. I have no idea just how big it will get, how much inventory to bring in, how many people will show up, how much advertising had been done by the good folks running RSD, and theres still about 100 other “what-ifs”.
The order deadline is loooong passed, and we are at the point of “it is what it is”. Most of the stuff that was requested did come in, but not all of it. The hardest part of running this place has been guessing what to bring in. Guessing what people want. For this RSD, I mainly only ordered what people requested, but there were a few other titles added for randomness. Many titles that did come in, there is only one copy of it, or possibly 2. I did make it a point to pull in lots of other new releases, re-issues, and put out as much of the used stock as I can. The 45's section is steadily growing, and I believe I can safely say that we're hosting one of the largest 12” singles collections of any store around. There's also a selection of CDs, cassettes, as well as new & used stereo equipment.
Even if you cant get the RSD title you wanted, Im sure you can find something else that you'll think is extremely cool to love.
The rules are still being worked out, but suffice it to say that things will be first-come-first-served. Also, there will be a limit of only one title to a person. You can of course buy multiple titles, but we want to discourage the professional “flippers” because quite frankly those types make the vinyl world suck....yeah, I said it...you suck!!
One of the reasons I put in so much work to get this shop up and running was because I wanted to get in on the RSD event fun. I wouldnt say that is has been “un-fun”, but it has been a bit of a headache. For now, I will chalk that up to the first time scramble. Please bear with me through this maiden voyage, and if you have any suggestions for next year, please drop me an email. I would love to hear it so that things can get bigger and better each time.
